Verizon Samsung S5 and 128gb Micro SD Card Issues

There is nothing more exciting to a “techie” than to see hardware prices come down so you can take your electronics to an even greater level.  I am one of those techies that loves to use my phone for photography.  I take great care of my phones by purchasing a protective case (the kind that have the cage on the inside with the soft rubber on the outside of the cage) and not using the phone until this protection is delivered.

I expect a phone to meet the specifications of blogs that are 6+ months old.  Well, well, here is my thumbs down to a great phone but a promise not kept by the Samsung S5.  If you have noticed the prices of memory dropped greatly during the holiday season.  You could pick up a 64gb micro card from Best Buy for under $50.  That is a great deal for a store.  However, I am a person that likes to shop online and get a better deal on technology.  After seeing the store prices I checked my online sources and found 128gb micro sd cards in the range of $12 – $99 depending on the level of the card.  There is always buyer beware but my first 128 Screenshot_2015-01-06-09-24-55card was the “HC” level and was only $13.  For that price it was worth the risk, plus it had a 10 day warranty.  I took my chances with my 3 month old Samsung S5.  The “card” worked for about an hour and left my images with a strange symbol.  The “card” would only temp hold the images and would erase them when the phone was turned off and back on.  Once back on the images were gone.  I took the card out of the phone and checked on the computer, no good.  The “card” seemed to be the issue.  I immediately returned it and took a venture to the Verizon Wireless store.

After, clearing my phone they felt it was an issue with the S5.Samsung S5 and 128gb Micro SDXC card  They sent me a “new” (really a referb with the same issues) back to me.  I didn’t know this at the time.  After taking time for my new chip (128gb Micro SD XC) to come in i thought a new phone and newer/faster card was the issue.  After a test run the “new” phone and the new Sandisk 128gb Micro SDXC still delivered the same results.  As you can see there seems to be an issue with writing to the card.  It didn’t matter what card i used at the 128gb level it didn’t write.  The SDXC level card is the exact one that I am currently using in my Samsung Tab 3 but at the 64gb level and that thing zooms and works great.  I believe that this phone isn’t able to truly work at this level since I am on my second Samsung S5.

Sandisk 128gb Micro SDXCI don’t know what the answer is but if you need a certain level of 128 Micro SD card for the Samsung S5 to work I would like the people at the Verizon store or on Verizon tech support to know.  There is another level of micro sd card but i believe it is the phone and not the cards.  Instead of using this 128gb powerhouse I am back to the old card.

So I am currently dissappointed in the Samsung S5 and will Samsund Micro SD 32gbhave to continue to use my 32gb card until this tech issue is solved.

If you have any suggestions or are experiencing the same issues please share your solutions.

Actions taken:

Formatted each SD card (4 times).
Followed Verizon Wireless tech support guidelines and rebooted my old phone.
Updated phone (while talking with tech support)
“New” phone (formatted card after updates)
Used multiple 128gb Micro SD cards (HC, XC)
Performed speed test with the card via Sandisk Memory Zone app. (32gb rated at 36.1mb/sec while the 128 rated at 31.0mb/sec) go figure.

Hopefully there is a resolution out there.

Instagram Away: Likes, Follows, and Other Tips

If you are new this is part 2 of my IG experience and I am sharing what I have found out through trial and error, other blogs, and the actions needed according to my marketing plan. This week on Instagram I didn’t spend as much time as before to see if I had any momentum. Come to find out I do have some momentum but fair better if I engage people.

Since last writing I spend very little time liking and following people. Here is what I found:

A follow is weak and a like is better. How? A like (the little red heart) is actual engagement and you will more than likely get a return follow if you have something engaging on your site or your site is based on what you are engaging about.

This week we are about +70 organic followers. This is from just looking at a pic in the #prom search and clicking the like button. Since our site has a call to action, it seems that 25% is our like to follow ratio. In other words as we like a pic in the prom category we are getting people to follow and like our site.

As for the direct message of prom pics, if we ask there is about a 70% chance that a person will send us a pic to have it featured. One day we had 24 out of 35 requests. Busy posting day.

I believe that Instagram has three categories of people:

  1. I just follow my friends
  2. I follow stuff I like
  3. I create stuff people will follow

I haven’t noticed any other categories.

What works on Instagram if you have a business?

  • Anything fashion will attract a ton of followers, just hashtag correctly.
  • MOST things beauty related
  • Most things health related

What businesses suck on Instagram?

  • Selling “wraps”…I have no idea but I guess it is the MLM version of SPANX
  • Selling vitamins
  • Selling any juicing program

Your Instagram has to be alive. Fashion is alive because many of the pics are about going out or being out in the world.

Vitamins and such are stale and stiff. The sites that do the best with those show their workout (my T & A theory) and show much of their life. If you are going to eventually sell something make sure you add life to your site.

PAYING for followers:

Does this work?

Truth be told, yes and no. You can use a site like www.buylikesandfollowers.com to boost your numbers. This is promoted as a marketing strategy and it somewhat works. You may want to boost your followers by 500 just to legitimize you site and work organic from there.

We used this site and it did help us get more people to our site. Something with being over 1000 that makes people take notice and follow.

For $6.99 you can get 500 followers and it is fast.

The no part: Almost all of the likes are very similar in account makeup. I found that over 100 only had 5 images and the images were random at best. This isn’t as bad as using the #like4like and getting “follow bots”, but enough to realize that this process is just paying for random marketing.

Today we will be trying to purchase 100 likes for $2.97 and see how that works. The thought is that it will generate more people to the site to follow and to my other sites. There is a claim that they are from real people, we will see.

GETTING Followers at different times:

One of the best days for us is #TBT when kids are reliving their prom night. Find a day that works for you and hit it hard to get followers.

Use #MCM to post shoes

Use #WCW to post fashionable attractors

By knowing a popular posting hashtag and attach other tags that relate to your subject, you can increase your followers.

YOUR IG Profile Words:

On @promphotography we a call to action to get followers. Consider using a call to action if you want to gain more followers and likes. Our message is

TO BE FEATURED Follow Us DM your fav prom pic. Follow @fireflyeventphotography Visit our blog for prom tips.

Figure out what your call to action is and you will see increased traffic there. The IG is just a start to leading a person to become a customer.

Without any push on our site we are getting 7 visitors a week just from this call to action. That is a lot considering the blog isn’t started and the site isn’t fully functional.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

  • Instagram is great for products
  • Using pay services helps a bit but you still have to work the organic side of IG
  • Change up the times you post to catch different people
  • Use popular posting days #TBT to post
  • Call to action on your profile

Next Time: Following statistics, buying likes results, questions answered.

My 6 Week Instagram Experience

This is my Instagram experience. I am in no way a social media guru but I do have an understanding of social media forms for regular people starting out and working to develop a following. Many people have asked and so I am delivering my 6 week experience of building a following on Instagram.

This is just a small part of what I have discovered so if you want to use social media to increase your business connections without paying for it, follow along for the next 6 weeks.

I currently run four accounts:

@piercebrunson (my life posted, low post frequency, minimal engagement)

@piercebrunsonphotography (my photography, low post frequency, minimal engagement)

@fireflyeventphotography (my high school event photography business, regular post frequency, minimal engagement)

@promphotography (my prom photography business, high post frequency, high engagement)

KEY WORDS:

IG: Instagram

Posts: The pic or media you are sharing.

Hashtags: “#” and then some words

Followers: People that follower your account

Likes: The heart that people click when they like your pic.

DM: Direct message

Engaging: Actively talking to another person.

Organic Follower: Real followers that are interested in your content, you built them by engaging and hashtagging your pics.

Igers: Actually “IGers”, a person that Instagrams.

Creep/ Creepin’: Looking at someone’s account to see what they are doing, then looking at who their friends are and what they like (also used to gain information about someone without asking)

Ok, time to get started. As of today I have worked the Instagram from zero to over 600 followers for a solid six weeks. I didn’t use the Facebook feature to instantly boost the account. The account where I did all of my learning is @promphotography. I have spent hours during the day and night to figure out how to build my account organically.

What I know:

  1. To increase likes it has to be a decent pic, not professional. Though professional helps.
  2. The IG filters help a crappy pic…they help a lot.
  3. There are people that sympathy like things because you posted a pic of your face and it has only two likes.
  4. Stay on topic
  5. You will gain and loose followers for a number of reasons
  6. Don’t take this personal
  7. It takes a ton of time and dedication to build a great site.
  8. If you engage you will have followers that are real people.
  9. Fake accounts will like your pics and follow you, mostly like pics.
  10. Follow4follow is useless, engage for follow
  11. Purchasing followers is a rip-off, no matter what the company says.
  12. I think products are easier to post, attract followers, and sell (though I have zero proof of this).
  13. People will DM (direct message) you pics that are related to your content if you feature them, tag them in the pic they send you and shout them out. (the most DMs I received in a day were 22, it was overwhelming)

What I have yet to figure out:

  1. How to turn any social media into buyers of product.
  2. How a person with 4 posts has 10000 followers.
  3. How to make money with these platforms.

What I believe now.

  1. You think you want 10000+ people that follow until you have to engage with them.
  2. You better figure out how to make some cash off of your efforts.
  3. Starving social media guru is the new starving artist.
  4. Social media is a 24 hour job. God bless Gary Vaynerchuk @garyvee, his social media obsession, and ability to turn this format into gold. Shit ain’t easy.

How to HASHTAG (#)

How to # (hashtag) properly? Simply type “#” and then add a word or phrase behind it. There you have just properly used the hashtag.

How do you get more likes to your images? Use this hashtag site to keep up. http://www.tagsforlikes.com/

I used this site’s hashtag suggestions and did get a lot of likes but many they were from fake accounts.

IMO (in my opinion) the best way to hashtag is with this formula: general topic, regional topic, local topic, extra tags for likes and followers.

Sample: I post a lot of prom pics for my Firefly Event Photography business, www.fireflyeventphotography.com @fireflyeventphotography and a sample posting for general images looks like this.

#northeast #vikings #nehi The #best student event #image company delivering #amazing #instagood #homecoming, #prom, & #graduation #style in #florida. Use #fireflyeventphotography at your #highschool #formal #event and get unlimited photos for everyone. Free downloading of images for 20 years. No credit card needed. #photooftheday #photobooths #props #memories #orlando #miami #stpete #tampa #tampabay #Sarasota #palmbeach #bocaraton #daytona #verobeach contact www.fireflyeventphotography.com

A bit jumbled so here is the breakdown of what I am doing:

General topic: #homecoming, #prom, & #graduation #style #highschool #formal #event

Regional topic: #florida #orlando #miami #stpete #tampa #tampabay #Sarasota #palmbeach #bocaraton #daytona #verobeach

Local topic: #northeast #vikings #nehi #fireflyeventphotography

Extras: #amazing #instagood #photooftheday

I combined a few from the tagforlikes site and developed my own formula. It is working out well.

NEW INFO:

One tag that I discovered the other day was the term “igers” there is a local tag for this.

#igersoftheday has 8 million pics connected to that hashtag.

FOLLOWERS

To increase followers post a ton of this type of content:

  1. Food: IDC (I don’t care) how much you exercise at the gym, food or #foodporn, is attractive. We all desire to eat whatever we want without the consequences.
  2. Tits and Ass: Shocking, I know but there is no way your meme about loving life will out attract a chick that is willing to post her body in the skimpiest outfit possible. These ladies will get easily 1000 followers in a few days from a fresh account.
    1. These type of women are also followed by the fitness girls that are just using the gym selfie to separate themselves from the porn (soft-core) world.
  3. Shoes, Animals, Jewelry, HDR Pics:

The aforementioned three are just for the regular folks…celebrities have a ton of followers but you aren’t them so don’t be shocked that you only have a third of your Facebook friends following you.

Want to easily increase your followers?

  1. Do a local search of users, example “stpete”
  2. Follow everyone related to that search in terms of your personal interest.
  3. Creep their followers and who they follow to increase your follow list.
  4. Like some of their pics and follow. If you are slightly interesting you will get some return follows as some will instantly follow back. #followback

How to organically increase followers?

  1. Use 1-4 above
  2. Like others that have the same interest.
  3. Follow others that are dedicated to the same interest.
  4. Engage by publically contacting them.
  5. Have contact that they will want to follow.
  6. Hashtag properly

Ok this enough for today, my brain hurts. If you have any questions or comments just leave them below. Every Friday until September I will share how the @promphotography and @fireflyeventphotography accounts are going and share tips that will help you increase your Instagram account.

SEO Explained in Great Detail

This is one of the best articles that explains SEO that I have found.  Why? Well, it makes it simple and gets right to the point of what I need and how to accomplish it through my website.  As of yesterday I had a person call me for a photography job because they searched google maps and I was in the area and came up first.  Very interesting since there are a ton of photographers in my area but there had to be a key word that locked us together.  Well, the session was booked and that is money coming my way.

Being able to check your SEO on your website and know who you are trying to connect to is like having a great errand list.  Get the day in order so that you can accomplish things in less time.  SEO helps you connect to customers, readers, and fans faster so that you can get to the task of engaging with those that want to engage with you. Check out the article and see if it helps you connect to those that want to connect to you.

All Things Great at Book Launch

When I wrote and published my first book the feeling was awesome. It was such a good feeling what within 6 weeks I had published my second book. The publishing of a book is such a daunting task and it challenges the soul deliver something permanent to the world that people can love or hate. Publishing a book of your words and thoughts can be frightening. Just as many people that say to me they want to write a book have been the same amount of people that are too afraid to do it. Everyone has fears about writing and publishing a book but mine were put to rest by Tara Richter (www.richterpublishing.com) and her system for publishing aspiring writers in 4 weeks.

Here is a review of the event: http://www.bizjournals.com/tampabay/blog/morning-edition/2014/04/business-owners-to-book-authors-in-four-weeks.html

My results were typical of anyone that works with her. By the end of the writing seminar my book was ready to be shipped to me. I must admit that her process is faster than 4 weeks. I only took 5 seminar days to have my book ready for print and ship. From that completion date it took 8 days to get my books in hand. That was a great day for me.

Meeting Tara and learning this system has dramatically changed my life for the better. She has taught me a system that inspires me to continue to write books for the audience I desire to reach. I am focused on delivering a total of 5 books by April 2015 for my high school audience. I enjoy working with Tara on book projects because she knows how to get your words into print. Tara Richter is just awesome to work with. I am glad I took her seminar.

Rock The Crowd: How The Cool Teachers Inspire More Students, Earn More Respect, and Become Lifelong Mentors.

Rock The Crowd by Pierce Brunson

Is there anything better for students than being in the class of the cool teacher? When it comes to being a teenage student, and being forced to attend school, there is nothing better than a class where the teacher is passionate about education. How do these popular teachers continue to be the sparkle in the eyes of so many children, while there are others that can’t get them to pay attention? Rock the Crowd shares the methods of those teachers that are considered cool by students, while maintaining the best relationships for valuable learning to take place. For the “cool teacher,” the front of their classroom is their stage, and every day, for hours, they give the greatest performance their students have seen to date. The crowd-rocker teaches with passion and convictions that inspire real student connections and learning that last a lifetime. These teachers are popular, year after year, while others are still struggling to learn how to relate to the students. In Rock the Crowd, I share all the things cool teachers do that make them successful in working with, and producing, successful and long lasting, learning-centered relationships. Rock the Crowd is great for teachers who are struggling to find their teaching groove and to reenergize those that are already grooving.

Pierce Brunson’s education includes Lynch Elementary, Meadowlawn Middle, Gibbs Senior High School (and the Pinellas County Center for the Arts) in St. Petersburg, Florida, Temple University in Philadelphia and Wilmington University in Delaware. He has 13 years teaching in the public school system as a high school Social Studies teacher, majoring in World History and Sociology. As a teacher, Pierce has a natural gift to rock the crowd, and every day he knew the power of taking the stage in front of students and delivering a great lesson. Being a sponge for learning ideas that would work with his students, Pierce started to use the techniques of other campus crowd rockers to greatly improve his teaching techniques. In 2012 Pierce stepped away from the classroom to pursue the personal challenge of positively affecting 10,000+ students a year with Firefly Event Photography, his company that captures images that reflect the personality of high school students at their homecomings, proms, and graduations. The second part of his life involves developing content that helps high school students grow the best skills possible to follow their personal path to success. Anytime Pierce has the opportunity to speak to teachers or students, he is only thinking of one thing before he starts…Rock the Crowd!

This is part of a chapter from my book Rock The Crowd: How The Cool Teachers Inspire More Students, Earn More Respect, and Become Lifelong Mentors. Every Wednesday and Friday (Starting April 8, 2014) I will share parts of every chapter. Don’t forget that the shares from my first book Learning Curve are on Monday and Thursday.

Thinking vs. Believing by Pierce Brunson

Thinking vs. Believing by Pierce Brunson

On my walk this morning I was faced with realizing that my life was, again, at a turning point. There is nothing like starting a business and working it but there is also nothing like starting a lifestyle and working it. Within the last few months my thoughts have moved from career to lifestyle in such a way that there seems to be another mass of information I need to process in order to fully understand my journey.

This morning I was thinking about my actions and what I believed about my abilities. As I am moving into the motivational speaking for high schools part of my lifestyle change I have been challenged on my beliefs (since kids can sense BS). I believe in my mission but there are times where thinking gets in the way. I have noticed that there are distinct differences between thinking and believing.

1. Thinking is easy to mold and shape like clay. Beliefs are very concrete and require a destruction of their foundation to change. This is why it takes people, including myself, to make the right changes for our life (even when the thoughts of what to do show up).

2. Thinking the same thing over time solidifies our beliefs even if we don’t realize the small bits of bad information are hardening to our belief system. Like barnacles or plaque we don’t notice until it is too late.

3. We have more power over our thinking very early in our lives than we believe. This is why kids are ready to take on the world at a young age, the belief of failure hasn’t taken hold yet. I believe we need to help students fight this negative thought building before it sets in.

4. You have to surround yourself with life thinkers if you want to change. This is why high school is so powerful. Every adult there is rooting on kids and willing to work with the students to see them succeed/ graduate. Even if you have a not so great home life school is a refuge for so many. The reason is that high school is all about being and achieving success (graduation). The world after graduation isn’t so supportive. You have to FIND the right people to get support while being the right person to give support.

5. Thinking my shape us but belief causes our actions. We only act on our belief system. Point blank, period. As the saying goes “Whether you can or can’t, both are equally true.”

Take some time this week to think and challenge your thinking about yourself and start to remove thought plaque from your belief system. You will have to do some work but you will find that a positive belief system is what you have always desired. Share, comment, follow.

I will start a video series on Thinking vs. Believing for high school students on 4/10/2014 on my YouTube page here https://www.youtube.com/user/truthisnear17/videos
